Retreat Leaders:

Charlotte -  is the founder of Lotus Oasis Retreats. Charlotte is a Certified instructor of Qigong, Primordial Sound Meditation, Yoga, and the Nine Breath Method – called Tumo. She has over 14 years of experience in the healing arts. Charlotte has been on a life long journey since she was a child. "It has always been an adventure", Charlotte says with a smile. She was introduced to Siddha yoga when she was 15 and began to practice meditation and yoga at that age. She has always been on a search for something, for something meaningful in her life. This search got her traveling all over the world to many interesting places, meeting interesting people and learning about many interesting philosophies… Always challenging but never boring. She has come to discover that this is what life is about….' a never ending journey'. In her reality the meaning of life is being discovered through service to others. Meditation has helped her discover her path. Since 2007 She has been practicing Primordial Sound Meditation, because of the detailed instructions she received and the guidance in understanding the deeper purpose of this practice she has been able to embrace it fully. This transformational experience has allowed her to see life in a very different way. Her desire is to share this passion she has for life through her daily practices.

Calida – is passionate about Herbalism, traditional medicinal or folk medicine practice based on the use of plants and plant extracts.. He passion started while growing up in Germany. As a resident of Durango, Colorado she has specialized in regional plants throughout the San Juan Mountains that have ability to synthesize chemical compounds that help them defend against attack from a wide variety of predators such as insects, fungi and herbivorous mammals. By chance, some of these compounds, whilst being toxic to plant predators, turn out to have beneficial effects when used to treat human diseases. As a Herbalists she engages in wildcrafting or cultivation of herbs, as well as diagnosis and treatment of conditions and providing regional herbal treatments. Her deep appreciation of this region's natural wonder has compelled her to share knowledge with others.

Retreat Overview

More than a half million acres in size, the Weminuche Wilderness is Colorado's largest, more than twice the size of Flat Tops, the second largest. As might be expected, the area contains the headwaters of dozens of major streams and rivers, feeding both the Rio Grande and San Juan rivers, two of the Southwest's most ecologically and culturally significant waterways. Weminuche's great size encompasses broad and diverse environments: cascading rivers swollen with snowmelt; immense glacial valleys; windswept ridges of the Continental Divide; and the seemingly unreachable summits of skyscraping granite, crags that cast magical reflections in alpine pools at dawn's soft light.

The Weminuche Wilderness offers spectacular examples of dramatically different mountain landscapes. The granitic Needle Mountains in the western end of the wilderness contain its three 14,000 foot peaks as well as equally inspiring summits, such as Arrow and Vesatal peaks in the nearby Grenadier Range. To The south, limestone mesas slope gently towards the high summits,. Farther east are ragged peaks and soaring cliffs, formed over millions of years as volcanic eruptions covered the landscape. Several periods of glaciation later creating the dozens of cirque lakes (63 to be precise) that dot the high country. The Animas River gorge cuts through the westernmost segment of the wilderness, beneath the distinctive metamorphic peaks of the West Needle Mountains. Thousands of tourists annually marvel at the area's beauty from the clacking cars of the Durango – Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, which parallels the river, climbing precipitously to the walls of the narrow canyon.
